One of our favorite things about a new listing is the excuse it gives us to spend a little more time getting to know the neighborhood around it.
Our newest listing at 8310 Childs Road brought us to Wyndmoor, a leafy pocket of Montgomery County that feels tucked away and connected all at once. The streets are lined with mature trees and an eclectic mix of homes, from classic stone houses to mid-century architecture, including the 1947 ranch that first brought us here.
And just a couple of minutes by car, or about a 15-minute walk from Childs Road, is one of the things we especially loved discovering: the little collection of neighborhood businesses along Willow Grove Avenue.
Start the morning at Locals Coffee - Roastery & Cafe, the kind of neighborhood coffee shop that makes it very easy to become a regular. Coffee is roasted in-house, and there’s plenty to choose from if breakfast is part of the plan too.
A few doors away, Captain Andy's Market is the kind of local market we love finding in a neighborhood: fresh seafood, meats, produce and prepared foods all under one roof. It feels less like running an errand and more like stopping by your neighborhood spot to figure out what’s for dinner.
For something fresh, Froot serves smoothies, açaí bowls, grain and salad bowls, soups and grab-and-go options. And when the mood calls for pizza, pasta and a night out, Enza brings a lively Italian restaurant to the same stretch of Willow Grove Avenue.
Then there’s The Stotesbury, a newer neighborhood pub with a family-friendly menu and the kind of easygoing atmosphere that feels right at home here.
What struck us while exploring Wyndmoor is how much is tucked into such a small pocket. You can spend most of the day among quiet residential streets and tree-filled yards, then wander over to Willow Grove Avenue for coffee, groceries, lunch or dinner without really leaving the neighborhood.
8310 Childs Road may have been what brought us here, but getting to know the neighborhood around it gave us another reason to stay awhile.
